Ruth Langsford has candidly discussed the “difficult conversation” she had with her son Jack about the menopause.

The 58-year-old telly star was engaging with her Loose Women colleagues, including Coleen Nolan, GK Barry, and Myleene Klass, on the topic of women’s lifelong burdens such as contraception, periods, childbirth, and then the menopause.

Myleene highlighted the need for men to be more involved in supporting women with contraception, revealing that her own partner had a vasectomy. The panel also observed that Generation Z parents seem to be doing a better job at educating their sons about women’s health issues.

Coleen shared an anecdote about her daughter Ciara Fensome sending her boyfriend to buy sanitary products, which astonished her, as she admitted she would never have been able to ask a past partner to do the same.

Discussing the evolution of parental conversations and how she educated her son about women’s health, Ruth said: “I always say as a mother of a son it is our responsibility to talk to young men about contraception, about women’s health, about periods and about the menopause,” reports the Mirror.

She went on to explain: “I had to have a chat with Jack about the menopause because I lost my rag one day with him, it was off the scale. I had to then explain to him ‘let me tell you about something called the menopause, it’s why mummy’s a bit cross today’.”

All her fellow stars concurred as they discussed the substandard education in schools. The youngest member of the group, GK Barry, expressed that sex education was not particularly helpful during her school years.

She reminisced about attempting to “put a condom on a banana”, highlighting that educational methods haven’t evolved over the years in schools.

In other news, Ruth has been navigating a highly publicised marital split from her former husband, Eamonn Holmes. Eamonn and Ruth, left their fans utterly stunned when they declared the termination of their 14-year marriage earlier this year.

The ex-This Morning presenters, who are parents to son Jack and are both aged 64, confirmed their separation in a joint statement: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

Following their announcement, GB News presenter Eamonn has moved on with his new partner Katie Alexander, 42, a marriage counsellor.

Loose Women is on ITV1 weekdays at 12.30pm and on ITVX
