The second round of the Asham U21 Slam took place at Lockerbie Ice Rink from October 18-20 and in a closely contested boys’ event, Team Carson took the top spot, securing their second win in this year’s U21 series.

In the finals, Team Carson, featuring Charlie Gibb, Archie Hyslop, Logan Carson and skip Orrin Carson defeated Team Thomson 5-1, showcasing strategic play and precise shot-making. Throughout the competition, they delivered consistent performances. In the semi-finals, they faced Team Brewster, winning 7-2 after controlling the final ends with solid defensive play.

Meanwhile, Team Thomson defeated Team Rutherford in their semi-final clash, ending with a strong 6-3 victory, thanks largely to a triple in the first end. Earlier in the round-robin phase, Team Carson had notable wins, including a 10-4 game against Team Rankin, where they capitalised on mistakes in the fourth end, scoring a crucial five points. Team Thomson also had a strong showing, defeating Team Brewster 12-5 in a game defined by their offensive strategy, scoring four points in two separate ends.

The women’s draw was equally competitive, with Team Seftor emerging as the winner after a series of tightly contested matches. In the final, they faced Team Laurie, coming out on top with a 7-2 scoreline. The game was one of tight margins, but quickly got away from Laurie, as Team Seftor imposed themselves in the opening ends and never looked back. Their strong sweeping and effective communication allowed them to control the pace and maintain a defensive stance in the final ends.

Earlier, Team Seftor had advanced to the final by defeating Team Soutar 6-4 in a match marked by strategic ends and critical takeouts. Their semi-final win was defined by consistency, not letting a three point end against them get their heads down. Team Laurie, on the other hand, advanced with a 5-3 victory over Team Watt, showcasing their defensive prowess with multiple 0-0 ends at key stages in the match.

This event is part of the Asham U21 series, helping young curlers refine their skills and prepare for higher levels of competition. The win by Team Seftor highlights the depth of talent in the women’s field, while Team Carson’s consistent performance underlines their strength in the men’s division.
