A van burst into flames on the M74 leading to traffic chaos on the motorway.
The incident happened at junction 1 on the motorway in Glasgow, at around 1:43pm this afternoon, Tuesday, October 29 and caused the road to be closed.
Images from the scene show the car covered in flames, as thick smoke billowed into the air.
Speaking to the Record, Anthony Rea explained how the fire led to traffic quickly building up in the area.
He said: “We were heading over the Kingston Bridge and noticed the smoke at first. Once we got closer you could see the flames.
“The van was well alight and the traffic was starting to build up behind it.
“The emergency services weren’t on the scene yet so nobody was driving past the vehicle. Hopefully the driver got out in time because the flames had completely engulfed the van.”
Traffic Scotland posted on X warning road users of delays of up to half an hour.
A spokesperson said: “Junction 1 to Seaward Street (NB). Road CLOSED due to a vehicle fire. Road users are advised to find alternative routes. Fire service remain at the scene.”
