A mum was in hysterics after coming across what appeared to be an X-rated message hidden on a piece of children’s clothing.

Lucy was browsing a branch of Poundland in Margate, Kent, when she came across a jumper that, at first glance, simply seemed to be adorned with cheerful, colourful letters. But upon closer inspection, the word ‘kn*b’ could be read on the front. “I spotted the jumper in the Margate store of Poundland when I was with my son,” she recounted. “It just made me really laugh.”

Lucy, who works at a school, naturally found it amusing. “I spend most of my time teaching kids how to read/use words properly,” she added. “I just automatically zone in to letters and words. I wasn’t shocked, it made me chuckle.”

She told What’s The Jam: “My son is five, he’s called Noah. I didn’t explain to him why I didn’t buy the jumper, but I have written it down to tell him when he’s older.” It prompted her to share her experience on social media with a tongue-in-cheek caption: “Someone in Poundland design offices is having a laugh. I chose not to buy this KN*B jumper for my son.”

One user bantered in response to the article of clothing’s design: “Not sure I’d buy a jumper with the word bonk on it for a child either.” Another jested: “Do they sell these in husband sizes?” Similarly, a third quipped: “Are they in adult sizes? Might get one for my ex.”

Further reactions included: “It’s a bonk jumper surely, clockwise from the right.” While someone else speculated: “Thought they just forgot the T, and it was a New Kids on The Block shirt.”

The Daily Record has contacted Poundland for comment.

In comes after another mum, Samantha Atkinson, was forced to perform a double-take when a fold in a children’s jumper seemed to transform the innocuous phrase ‘kindness counts’ into something far less appropriate. While browsing through Kmart, an Australian department store, she was initially taken aback by the bright yellow girls’ hoodie that appeared to bear a curse word.

Upon closer examination, Samantha, a Perth-based mum-of-one, realised that a letter in ‘counts’ had been obscured by a fold, creating an X-rated optical illusion. She couldn’t resist capturing the moment and shared the image online, where it swiftly became a sensation.

“My husband and I had popped into Kmart to pick up some baby clothes for my seven month old daughter,” the 44-year-old said, as reported by the Mirror. “I saw the hoodie and had to look twice. I actually walked back to take another look.” She added, “I decided to snap a photo, and it was exactly as photographed,” clarifying that she hadn’t altered the garment in any way.

“I thought it was hilarious, although had to ask my husband if he saw what I did in case it didn’t look that way to anyone else.”
