Netflix viewers have been showering praise on an ‘underrated’ film from 2021 starring True Detective actor Woody Harrelson.

The Netflix original movie in question is a fast-paced psychological thriller called Kate, which also stars Scott Pilgrim vs. the World actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Taking to a Facebook group entitled Netflix Bangers, which asks for recommendations from its three million members, one person shared a still from the film with the caption: “Please review this film before I start watching.”

In response to the request, several members flocked to the comments section urging the film enthusiast to give it a try as they raved about the performances.

A synopsis for Kate, which also stars Miku Martineau and Michiel Huisman, reads: “A jaded assassin assigned to target a yakuza clan has 24 hours to find out who poisoned her and get vengeance before she dies.”

“I love this movie,” one fan on Facebook gushed, while another agreed: “Loved it, brilliant film.”

“Such a good movie. Mary Winstead is amazing in this,” a third wrote, while one more told their fellow community members that people “just have to” watch Kate.

The thriller follows assassin Kate (Winstead), whose mentor and handler (Harrelson) asks her to kill the high-ranking yakuza boss before she dies by poisoning.

The revenge plot sees her steal injectable stimulant drugs and a gun as she embarks on a mission where the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Kate was directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who has previously directed The Huntsman: Winter’s War, and the film is largely based in Japan.

While Facebook fans couldn’t get enough of the Netflix flick, it received mixed reviews when it was first released.

Critics gave it a combined score of just 46% on Rotten Tomatoes, with some branding it “derivative”.

Audiences gave it a slightly higher score of 52%, while on IMDb it earned 6.2/10.

The featured user review for IMDb reads: “Good looking, fast paced movie with good fight choreography and a simple story. Basically, a female John wick.

“If not for a little too much sentimentality and a plot twist you can see coming from the start I would have given it an even higher score.

“Keep your expectations low and your gratitude high and you’ll enjoy this one.”

Kate is available to stream now, exclusively on Netflix.
