Legendary 90s pop group A*Teens have been announced as part of Mighty Hoopla’s 2025 line-up, and they look very different to their early days of fame.
Dhani Lennevald, Sara Lumholdt, Marie Serneholt, and Amit Paul became pop sensations after joining forces as an Abba tribute band in 1998.
They covered the likes of Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen, releasing their debut album, The Abba Generation, in 1999.
The Swedish group went on to produce original tracks in their second studio album, including smash hit Upside Down which reached top ten in countries around the world.
And now, they’ll bringing back the likes of Halfway Around the World and Sugar Rush at Mighty Hoopla next year.
The London festival has already confirmed Ciara, Kesha, Pixie Lott and Eurovision winner Loreen will be performing in Brixton on May 31 and June 1 2025.
And fans are over the moon that A*Teens will be on stage too, looking all grown up to how they did 20 years ago.
‘We were just kids who loved singing and dancing,’ Dhani told Vice in 2021, recalling their early days of fame.
‘We would sometimes stop and just be like, “I can’t believe that this is happening for us.”
‘It was such a beautiful and proud moment of my life.’
They soon hit international fame and were shocked to discover Britney Spears was a fan, before announcing they were taking a break in 2006 and pursuing solo projects, after their Greatest Hits album was released in 2004.
‘We all felt like we wanted to try something new. It felt like when you’re growing out of a shirt, and it doesn’t fit as well anymore,’ Dhani said.
Talking about possibly getting back together, he added at the time: ‘Maybe if it was for some incredible charity thing, otherwise, I don’t see the point of it. I wouldn’t do it for money.’
‘We didn’t fall out. We’re just all living different lives.’
Marie, who is mum to twin boys, went on to release a single and debut album, as well as competing in the Melodifestivalen song contest in 2012 in Sweden, and judging a version of The X Factor later that year.
She also finished as runner-up on Let’s Dance in 2015, and co-hosted the Swedish version of gameshow Fort Boyard the same year.
Dhani went on to work as a model and music producer, after releasing his first and only post-A*Teens song in 2004.
Sara is now a champion pole dancer, after releasing a cover of Olivia Newton John’s Physical and working with Swedish producers and songwriters. She hosted Sweden’s X Factor spin-off Xtra Factor in 2012.
Dad-of-two Amit took time away from the limelight after A-Teens, for a career in business, but did release a solo album in 2008, titled Songs In a Key Of Mine.
Earlier this year, the band did reunite in honour of their 25th anniversary taking to the stage at Melodifestivalen.
