BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The West Virginia Christmas City is preparing for another festive year.
Employees from the City of Bluefield’s Public Works Department are busy installing thousands of lights around the Bluefield City Park.
The drive-thru light display has grown over the past 28 years reaching to more than 1.3 million lights.
Park Superintendent David Lester says there will be four new light installations this year including 8ft tall light up octopus, Eiffel Tower, old mill scene, and bigfoot.
“There’s about 15 to 20 of us that gets delegated to the lights,” said Lester. “It’s a lot of work, but we enjoy doing it for the kids and the community.”
The annual display of lights will begin Thanksgiving evening at 6PM, running through the first weekend of January.
Admission is free for the Holiday lights, but some attractions will include an admission fee.
Ice skating, located in City Park will be $5 a person and includes skate rental for half an hour of skating.
Trolley ride through the park and hayrides will be offer on certain dates with a $2 admission.
