Police have launched a murder investigation after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Solihull yesterday evening.
Officers made one arrest after being called out to the incident in Station Road, Marston Green, at around 6.20pm.
The teenager was treated for his injuries by the ambulance service but despite their best efforts they were unable to save him.
A nursery and junior school are located on the road, which is mainly residential with a row of shops and a petrol garage.
West Midlands Police have arrested another 17-year-old boy on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
A member of staff at a nearby hairdresser told ‘The boy was in a shop on the road when he was chased out of there by another group of kids, and then he tried to run into the vape shop to get away from them.
‘They stabbed him in the heart and in the leg and a few women who work in the One Stop shop got a defibrillator and tried to save him.
‘He was on the floor and they were trying to save his life.
‘They are heroes and so brave for trying to help him but it is so so sad.
‘It is so shocking the whole community doesn’t know what to think, it’s just awful.’
Supt Wayne Carter, of Solihull Police, said: ‘We know people will understandably be concerned and we will be in the area conducting enquiries throughout the day.
‘We will have extra officers in the area over the coming days and I would encourage anyone with any information, or concerns, to get in touch.’
Officers are reviewing CCTV footage, making enquiries and appealing to any witnesses who haven’t spoken to come forward.
West Midlands Police said: ‘Our thoughts remain firmly with the victim’s family and loved ones at this truly tragic time.’
