BLAND, Va. -Sticking with education in Virginia, Bland County High School celebrated an exciting new addition Thursday.
Thursday a ribbon cutting was held for the new GOTEC classroom.
The GOTEC classroom is a collaboration with Hitachi energy. who has an operation in Bland, along with Bland County Schools.
GOTEC is a program for middle school students to be exposed to different technologies.
varying from writing code for computers to robotics, welding and more.
The GOTEC instructor tells us this program is a real boost for students deciding their path in life.
While Hitachi considers this an investment for the future in the county.
“Smaller counties like this, sometimes the opportunities are not there, a lot of times due to funding and different things. So having Hitachi and having the school board come on board to make this program. It’s really good for the students”
“We want to keep our students local if we can. We are in their back yard so we basically wanted to work with the schools and bring a program in that only helps the students but us as well that we can employ the kids as they graduate.”
The Hitachi Corporation made the eighty-nine-thousand-dollar investment for Bland County Schools to have this program
