WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – In speech to future foreign service officers, Secretary of State Antony Blinken called out two of America’s adversaries. He said the Biden Administration is committed to promoting democratic values in every corner of the world.
In a speech called “American Diplomacy for a New Era” Secretary Blinken said China is an economic competitor and that the U.S. will continue competing with Beijing on global trade.
“We‘re not asking countries to choose between China and the United States, but we‘re working hard to improve the value propitiation that partnering with the United States brings to deliver on a country’s economic needs and aspirations.”
Blinken also touted the administration’s efforts in confronting Russia.
“We are strengthening energy security by helping our European partners reduce their dependency on Russian natural gas. Back in 2021 forty-five percent of their natural gas imports came from Russia. Today, it’s down to less than 15%”
The Secretary of State acknowledged that more work needs to be done. But with less than three months until leaving his post, those efforts in dealing with Russia and China, economically and on national security, will be inherited by the next president.
