Events across Ayrshire are taking place to mark Scottish Careers Week and to highlight local careers support.
Coordinated by Skills Development Scotland (SDS), the national campaign takes place from November 11 to 15.
Across Ayrshire, events will be taking place in Kilmarnock, Beith, Troon and Girvan with a range of support on offer for people of all ages and abilities.
Now in its fourth year, SDS hope Scottish Careers Week can enable people to “find their passion and thrive”.
Set against a backdrop of the ever-changing world of work, new technology and the need to develop the right skills, the campaign showcases partnerships helping people of all ages make positive education and career choices to shape their future.
Ayrshire College’s Kilmarnock Campus will feature events through the week, including a drop-in stall with a careers adviser on November 12 and a My World of Work Live Lego Renewables session on November 15.
Garnock Community Campus is also hosting a careers fair with employers talking to pupils about local opportunities.
A number of schools across the region, including Marr College and Girvan Academy will also be holding activity to support their pupils.
Shona Mitchell, SDS head of operations for the South of Scotland, said: “As the national skills body delivering Scotland’s careers service in schools, in the community and online, we want people to know that career support through SDS is available year-round, across all communities and ages.
“Thanks to support from local employers, schools and organisations, there’s lots happening in the area and nationally during Scottish Careers Week to showcase exciting industries and opportunities and the help available to make the right career choices.”
National events taking place during the week include a free Zoom webinar for parents and carers on Tuesday, November 12, at 7pm called Helping Young People with Career Decisions and Next Steps.
A careers adviser will explain SDS support, including the My World of Work website and its resources for young people and parents. Register to attend through Eventbrite.
Also online will be the VirtRural Careers 2024 from Lantra, a virtual event with industry professionals working in Scotland’s land-based, aquaculture and environmental conservation sectors.
The Scottish Childminding Association will host online ‘Discover Childminding’ sessions where you can explore a new career in childminding and the Royal College Speech and Language Therapy’s ‘Voices for the Future’ will offer insight into careers in speech and language therapy.
