A fire ripped through a flat in Fife this morning, sending flames bursting through the window and thick smoke billowing into the sky.

Emergency services were scrambled to the blaze in Glenrothes shortly before 11.30am on Thursday, October 31.

Seven fire appliances rushed to the scene on Abbotsford Drive to tackle the inferno.

Footage from the scene showed huge flames tearing out of the top-floor property’s window while black smoke could be seen filling the sky.

Local residents captured pictures of smoke from the inferno engulfing the surrounding areas.

Fire crews remain on the scene this afternoon, working to tackle the flames. No one is believed to have been injured in the blaze.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.26am on Thursday, 31 October to reports of a flat fire in Glenrothes.

“Operations Control mobilised seven fire appliances to the town’s Abbotsford Drive, where firefighters remain working to extinguish the fire. There are no reported casualties.”
