FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. – An Indiana man was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges in the 2023 murder of a Fayette County woman. The announcement was made by Anthony Ciliberti Jr., the Prosecuting Attorney for Fayette County.
According to Ciliberti, 29-year-old Andres M. Torres Jr., from Goshen, Indiana, was on trial for the 2023 murder, kidnapping, and robbery of Michelle A. Smith. Smith was from Fayette County, and lived near Robson, according to Ciliberti.
Ciliberti said the full details of the crimes will not be released because Amanda Soultz, the accomplice and co-defendant of Torres, has not gone on trial for the pending charges.
Torres was convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping, first-degree robbery, and conspiracy, with the jury not making a recommendation of mercy. Ciliberti explained that this means Torres will never be eligible for parole and will stay behind bars for the rest of his life.
