Emmerdale fans were left stunned as the ITV soap unexpectedly killed off a former regular character off-screen, eight years after her last appearance in the village.
Earlier this week, viewers were shocked when Ross Barton, portrayed by Michael Parr, turned up as Billy Fletcher’s (Jay Kontzle) adversary in an illicit boxing match.
In the most recent instalment available on ITVX, which aired on ITV1 on Wednesday, October 30, Ross stops by Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) place to drop something off for their son Moses Dingle (Arthur Cockroft).
During his visit, he shares updates about his life post-Emmerdale, revealing that he moved to Liverpool with his girlfriend Rebecca White (Emily Head) and her son Seb White, Robert Sugden’s (Ryan Hawley) biological child, Leicestershire Live reports.
A poignant moment occurs when Ross asks Charity for a “selfie” to show Moses that his parents are amicable. However, when Charity grabs his phone to call Rebecca, she gets no answer.
Ross then confesses they had “split up a while back” and shockingly announces that Rebecca has passed away. He describes how Rebecca had reached out to him regarding a routine hospital procedure and requested him to look after Seb.
Ross recalls the heart-wrenching time: “We went go-karting and he loved it, we both did, and then I helped him make a card for his mum but he never got to give it to her.
“We were both having a pizza when we got the call. It turns out I was still listed as her next of kin.
“They said it was a one in a thousand chance. Her heart just stopped and that was it. I let Seb go to sleep that not knowing he didn’t have a mum anymore.”
Robert then shared that Seb is now living with one of Rebecca’s family members in Bristol.
Emmerdale fans will remember that Rebecca previously suffered a brain injury from a car accident, masterminded by Lachlan White (Thomas Atkinson).
