BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Election day is just days away and WVVA is continuing its coverage of Mercer County candidate Jeff Disibbio being left off of the ballot in the race for West Virginia’s 6th Senate District.

Disibbio was reportedly left off of nearly 700 early voting ballots in Mingo County. The issue was reported on Monday and corrected but this isn’t the first time Mingo County has had election troubles.

Voter irregularities were reported in the May primary after State Senator Chandler Swope challenged the results.

Disibbio, a democrat is running against Mingo County Republican, Craig Hart.

Now we‘re reaching out to the governor’s office to gather Jim Justice’s thoughts on the issue at hand.

“We go to do better in Mingo County but we got to do better all over the place all the time. I‘m not suggesting that in West Virginia we’re not doing good but I absolutely want us to do better and I want all these states across the union to do better,” said Justice. “These mistakes shouldn‘t happen. I mean that‘s all there is to it. There‘s no point in me dancing around that. It shouldn’t happen.”

An official from the West Virginia Secretary of State‘s Office says the Mingo County clerk made a mistake and didn’t add Disibbio’s name to the ballot despite being sent a list of certified candidates.

WVVA did try and reach out to leaders by phone in Mingo County to try and learn more about the ballot issues but have yet to hear back.
