KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) – Multiple Applebee’s restaurant locations across the Kansas City metro area have suddenly closed.
Many Applebee’s employees in Kansas City woke up Wednesday morning to the news of the sudden restaurant closings.
Company officials confirmed the closures and said the locations affected were independently owned.
“Applebee’s restaurants are independently owned and operated by franchisees. The closure of eight restaurants in the Kansas City market looks to be the result of financial circumstances and decisions made by the franchisee,” Applebee’s President Tony Moralejo said. “This situation is unfortunate, and we continue to believe the Kansas City area is a great neighborhood for Applebee’s restaurants.”
Moralejo continued, “Two Applebee’s restaurants continue to serve our guests in the Kansas City area.”
Company officials noted that while they typically do not discuss individual franchisees, this particular entity has had periods when they have not been in good standing with the brand and has proven to not represent the brand well in the Kansas City market.
The two Applebee’s restaurants that remain open in the area are the Blue Springs and Gladstone locations.
