A Strictly Come Dancing star has reportedly faced an agonising injury, days before the next live show.
According to reports, pro dancer Nadiya Bychkova was left with a ‘swollen and bruised’ thumb when it ‘snapped’ during training.
The 35-year-old had been partnered with Olympian Tom Dean this series, but they became the first pair eliminated from the competition.
Nadiya was said to be involved in a group dance for a future show, but was involved in an injury on Wednesday, when she fell and landed on her hand.
It’s claimed she was treated by on-site medics before an X-ray revealed she had broken her thumb.
A source told The Sun: ‘Nadiya was training with the other pros when she fell. Her thumb basically snapped and it looked incredibly painful.
‘Everyone crowded around her. Nadiya’s thumb was badly swollen and bruised, but she doesn’t want to let anyone down and is adamant she can do the pre-recorded number.
‘A doctor eventually cleared her and she’ll be able to film, but might be treated with kid gloves by fellow pros.
‘Nadiya will be there on Saturday for the live show, too — she’s adamant the show must quite literally go on.’
Her injury comes after Nick Knowles revealed he is recovering in hospital after undergoing major surgery.
The DIY SOS star, 62, was eliminated from Strictly after being forced to skip the previous week, having suffered both a knee and arm injury.
He later shared a clip from hospital, explaining he had just had a ‘bicep reattachment’ operation and would need knee surgery.
Meanwhile, Amy Dowden will be missing the live show on Saturday after she was rushed to hospital during the last live show.
Her celebrity dance partner, JB Gill, will instead be dancing with Lauren Oakley.
The BBC confirmed earlier this week: ‘Amy Dowden MBE is doing much better and the Strictly family send her love and wish her well.
‘She is delighted that fellow Professional Dancer, Lauren Oakley, is able to step in for rehearsals and to perform in Saturday’s show for JB Gill’s Couple’s Choice dance.
‘We are all hopeful that Amy will be back to dance with JB next week.’
Amid the injuries and illnesses from this season of Strictly – which followed a series of scandals and a BBC investigation – Nadiya has also faced a difficult year, having split from her former partner Kai Widdrington, who is also on the show.
They’d been together for two years, but it emerged earlier this year that they’d decided to ‘call it quits’ mutually after they experienced a ‘tough few weeks’ with their extremely busy schedules.
At the time, it was said that they remained ‘incredibly close’, and they were ‘determined their split will not have any impact on the next series of Strictly’.
However, Nadiya has since claimed they are now not as close, saying at the Pride of Britain awards: ‘We work together but we are not friends and that’s OK.’
‘One thing I can tell you is that when you see me dancing with him it will be amazing because I’m a professional.’
Metro has approached the BBC and Nadiya’s rep for comment.
