The revival was greenlit at the beginning of 2023 and will bring back most of the original cast members.

DALLAS — A “King of the Hill” revival is in the works, and we are now starting to get a better idea of the series, which will be set years after the original series finale, with a look at a grown-up Bobby Hill.

In a post to Instagram by Grey DeLisle, now deleted, there is a photo of Bobby, looking pretty much the same except a little taller and with some stubble, as a chef.

The following description is written below Bobby’s photo:

Chef Bobby Hill has loved food his whole life. From weeknights around the dinner table eating his mom’s “Spa-Peggy and Meatballs,” to overindulging in lutefisk at church potlucks, to celebrations with family and friends at Luly’s Cafeteria, food and the people it’s enjoyed with are the foundation for his best memories. In fact, his career as a robata chef was inspired by his most cherished memory of all—weekends spent grilling with his dad.A self-taught chef and one of the youngest contestants on King of the Grill, Chef Hill believes “good food can solve any problem.” He draws on the influences of his childhood by combining classic Texas dishes with flavors from around the world. With Robata Chane, Chef Hill hopes to honor the art of Japanese robata and the German heritage of the Texas Hill Country while pushing culinary boundaries through his innovative fusion dishes.

The description makes references to numerous jokes and plot points from previous episodes of the animated series. And Bobby becoming a chef makes sense with setups in episodes late in the series where he becomes interested in barbecue with Bill, and later when he discovers his talent for grading steaks in the series finale.

There is one built-in conflict in his career choice, however. He is a robata chef. Short for robatayaki, it’s a Japanese method of grilling that involves slow-cooking food over charcoal. Bobby’s father, Hank Hill, is notorious for his job as a propane salesman and his dislike of charcoal.

It’s unclear when the series will return, but most of the original cast will be back, aside from the late Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty. Johnny Hardwick, who voiced Dale Gribble, also died last year, but according to TVLine, Hardwick was able to record “a couple” episodes before his death.
