With over 200 types of cancer, symptoms can vary widely, making it challenging to know which signs to watch for. One lesser-known warning sign of the disease can actually be noticed on your sheets and pillows each morning.
Detecting warning signs early is essential when it comes to cancer, as it can save lives but recognising the signs can be challenging.
Symptoms can be nonspecific, such as weight loss and fatigue, or they can target particular areas of the body, like the skin. Other common signs include lumps, unexplained bleeding, and ongoing bloating, reports the Surrey Live.
However, one less apparent symptom of cancer that you may notice on your sheets and pillows each morning is night sweats.
Night sweats can be a frequently overlooked warning sign of cancer.
Experts suggest to check your bedding every morning after you wake up, for signs of excessive sweating whilst you sleep. You may find your sheets and pillows are soaked as an indication of excessive sweating.
According to Cancer Research, infection is one of the most frequent causes of sweating in individuals with cancer.
Infections lead to a high fever prompting your body to sweat in an effort to lower it.
Some cancer types can also cause you to sweat more than usual, these include:
- non-Hodgkin lymphoma
- Hodgkin lymphoma
- carcinoid tumours
- leukaemia
- mesothelioma
- bone cancer
- prostate cancer
- kidney cancer
- germ cell tumours
- advanced medullary thyroid cancer
Additionally, those in advanced stages of any type of cancer may also notice excessive sweating.
Cancer can appear through many different symptoms, so it is important to know what is normal for your body and to consult your GP if you notice any chances.
Although sweating alone doesn’t necessarily mean cancer, it is essential to speak with your doctor if this symptom is unusual for you.
