Jennifer Lopez fought back tears as she publicly backed Kamala Harris in a rousing rally speech in Las Vegas, while effortlessly bringing down Donald Trump ahead of the US Election.
On November 5, Americans will be heading to the polls – if they haven’t already voted early – having their say on who will be the next leader of the country.
A string of famous faces have publicly backed the current Vice President for the top job, including Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Jennifer Aniston, Selena Gomez and the Foo Fighters.
Just days before the vote, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe sparked huge controversy when he appeared at a rally for the Republican candidate in New York, and referred to Puerto Rico as a ‘floating island of garbage’.
That grim remark was clearly at the forefront of Lopez’s mind as she took aim at Trump’s campaign in a powerful speech in Nevada last night, urging viewers to make their voices heard.
‘It’s about us. All of us. No matter what we look like, who we love, who we worship or where we’re from,’ she said, before suggesting that the businessman ‘doesn’t see it that way’.
‘He has consistently worked to divide us. At Madison Square Garden, he reminded us who he really is and how he really feels. It wasn’t just Puerto Ricans who were offended that day. It was every Latino in this country, it was humanity and anyone of decent character.
‘I’m a lover. You guys know that about me. I’m a lover, I’m not a fighter. I’m not here to trash anyone or bring them down – I know what that can feel like and I wouldn’t do it to my worst enemy. Or even when facing the biggest adversary I think America has ever had.’
Fighting tears, the Love Don’t Cost A Thing singer vowed: ‘I promised myself I wouldn’t get emotional but you know what? We should be emotional. We should be upset, we should be scared and outraged. We should. Our pain matters. We matter. You matter. Your voice and your vote matters.
‘I believe in the power of Latinos. I believe in the power of our community, I believe in the power of all our votes.
‘You can’t even spell American without Rican. This is our country too and we must exercise our right to vote on November 5.’
‘I am an American woman,’ Lopez added. ‘I am the daughter of Guadalupe Rodríguez and David Lopez, a proud daughter and son of Puerto Rico. I am Puerto Rican, and yes, I was born here. And we are Americans. I am a mother, I am a sister, I am an actor, and an entertainer.
‘I like Hollywood endings. I like when the good guy – or in this case, the good girl – wins. With an understanding of our past, and a faith in our future, I will be casting my ballot for Kamala Harris for President of the United States proudly.’
Fans were left with goosebumps after the Hustlers star’s powerful appearance, and heaped praise on her efforts on social media.
Below a video on Lopez’s Instagram page, Jlosgolden said: ‘Jennifer Lynn Lopez once again demonstrating her courage, standing up and speaking out for what she believes in.
‘Fearless and unapologetic, using her Voice out Loud for change and inspire others! SOOO PROUD OF YOU QUEEN!!’
Krisjlover4life agreed: ‘I got goosies listening to your speech! Such a powerful speech!! I can’t tell you enough how proud I am of the person you are and everything you stand for!
‘“You can’t even spell American without RICAN” That’s right!!TELL’EM. We stand with you from around the world! Americans VOTE VOTE VOTE!!’
‘”You can’t spell American without RICAN” That’s right Jen. You ate that speech. That speech just made me adore you even more,’ _jlothaqueen enthused. ‘We are behind you Jen and we are behind Kamala, America make the right choice.’
As Divoandthecity added: ‘Your words were incredible! I’m so proud of you. One of the best speeches ever.’
Lopez isn’t the only famous face to back Harris in the run up to election day, with LeBron James, Madonna and Cardi B among those sharing their support on social media.
The Avengers reunited to endorse the VP when Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo and co recorded a video endorsement.
Former Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger shocked everyone when he also issued a statement confirming that he was voting for the Harris / Walz campaign this week.
‘It is probably not a surprise that I hate politics more than ever, which, if you are a normal person who isn’t addicted to this crap, you probably understand,’ he said in a lengthy Twitter post, vowing that he doesn’t ‘like either party right now’
‘To someone like me who talks to people all over the world and still knows America is the shining city on a hill, calling America is a trash can for the world is so unpatriotic, it makes me furious.
‘And I will always be an American before I am a Republican. That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.’
