Superheroes and cartoon characters gathered with ghosts, witches and werewolves as over 70 young people attended a special Halloween event at Fernhill Soccer School.

There were some fantastic outfits on show as 47 youngsters dressed for the party, while another 24 who are starting to think they may be too old for the ghostly goings-on (are you ever) decided to continue with a football kickabout outside.

The impeccable dressed party-goers tucked into hotdogs, pizzas, ice-cream and sweets, and a whole lot more. With those who were playing football also receiving snacks and drinks.

Everyone received a goody-bag at the end and a great time was had by all.

Fernhill Soccer School founder Davy O’Neil said: “A big thanks to all our volunteers without them we couldn’t have Fernhill Soccer School never mind the party. They turn up every Sunday week-in week-out as well.

“Outside Jack O’Neil, Kevin Anderson and goalkeeper coach Will kept the kids busy, and inside entertainment was by our two brilliant coaches Stewart O’Neil and Steven Gibson – first class lads.

“We also had Billy Hepburn, Lyndsay Adens, Leigh-Anne Steele, and young Paige, as well as local councillor Margaret Cowie all working flat out to make sure kids got their pizza and hotdogs, and ice-cream, and making sure it went smoothly.

“And I’d also like to say a big thanks to those who support us – Warburtons who now support Fernhill Soccer School with rolls every Sunday we are on; Sported, who point us in right direction for funding support; we have The Robertson Trust; Weir Charitable Trust; Awards for All; Scottish Midland Co-op [Scotmid]; South Lanarkshire Council PB fund; and ex local lad Peter Conway who generously gave us a large donation.

“Without them it wouldn’t be possible to get so many kids off the streets and involved in football, training and generally mixing.

“I really don’t think some of the people who fund us realise how much good they are doing.”
