NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Criminals were caught on security cameras crawling into the Pedego Electric Bike shop in New Braunfels, stealing $60,000 in bikes, batteries, keys and chargers on Oct. 25.
Kristen Pokyy, who owns the store, said she is devastated and out of business aside from the loyal customers who continue to get their bikes serviced there.
The New Braunfels Police Department said the suspects pulled a stolen U-Haul up to the business the night of Oct. 25, broke the back door window, crawled in and stole almost everything in the store.
NBPD is seeking tips from the public on the whereabouts of a U-Haul truck with the Arizona license plate AE37747 and the identity of suspects who used the truck in a burglary.
“Had that alarm not gone off, they would have taken every single bike in here,” Pokyy said.
The criminals avoided the alarm by crawling under the motion sensors. But after almost 40 minutes, they stood up and it went off.
Pokyy said police arrived soon after, but by that point the thieves were gone.
Pokyy said she’s been selling bikes for the last four and a half years after retiring from nursing. She has always loved biking and wanted to share that passion with others.
“I like to help people understand you’re never too old to ride a bike.”
She formed a community that has now been ripped away.
Pokyy said she’s a small business and restocking the shop will take weeks. For now, she has to rely on the customers who still need servicing to their bikes to bring in money.
Anyone with information about the whereabout of this truck or the identity of the suspects is asked to contact New Braunfels police or Comal County Crime Stoppers.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $4,000 for information that leads to an arrest and/or grand jury indictment.
