TAZEWELL, Va. -The Tazewell High School Class of ‘73 celebrated its 50th class reunion last year by telling the stories of the classmates on video because throughout the five decades the classmates felt a sense of togetherness and unity.
Next year, viewers of PBS can share some of their stories.
“So out of that was born the desire to recognize where we came from because we think very strongly that who we are is a result of our heritage,” David Whittaker, President of Tazewell Class of ’73 Peak Foundation. With the Class of ’73, the Peak Foundation was created to help those in the community and to recognize that Tazewell High School opened in 1873, making this the centennial class.
“We were the centennial class. So now we get to take that heritage and move it forward as the centennial class celebrates the peak foundation,” said Terry W. Mullins, classmate. Working tirelessly, one graduate decided to travel nearly 5,000 miles to collect the successes of her classmates. After gathering stories Debra Wilson created a documentary featuring most of the class of ‘73.
“I captured those stories. I was even more intrigued by the legacy that we truly had to leave to our community, to future classes, and to our county,” said Debra Wilson.
The Tazewell Class of ’73 Peak Foundation plans to continue growing and investing in the future of the community.
