Winger Stuart McKinstry reckons Hamilton Accies will be ‘licking their lips’ when they tackle rock-bottom Airdrie today.

The former Motherwell ace joined Accies last week on a short-term deal and made his debut off the bench in last week’s thumping 3-0 win over Morton, where Oli Shaw scored a seven-minute hat-trick late on.

That has put Accies on a real high going into a tasty clash with their Lanarkshire rivals, who are toiling at the foot of the table with a host of injuries to contend with and just one win from 12 games.

So McKinstry says Accies must use that to their advantage to pile the misery on the Monklands men.

He said:”As a team, when you come up against a rival who is not in form, you kind of lick your lips because that’s what you want.

“You want to go and win every game, but with the form Airdrie are in and the form we’ve shown last week, we will fancy our chances.

“With our result last week, I think we’ve got every right to feel confident and go and try to win the game.

“It is a game that we will be going into on a high on the kind of confidence that we’ve not had for a long time.

“Last week was a big result and a big statement that we are not going to be a team who are happy to settle for draws or whatever.

“We are here to put our mark on the division.

“Going away from home, it will still be a tough one but we are looking forward to it.”

Stuart McKinstry has joined Hamilton Accies

McKinstry has been trying to get back up to speed after being released by Queen’s Park in the summer and struggling to find a club before Accies came in and took him on board for seven weeks before deciding on a deal.

The former Motherwell man added: “It has been difficult. I missed preseason last year as well and that was more due to personal reasons.

“This season I wanted to get a pre-season under my belt but, unfortunately, the chance didn’t come up at the time.

“But I believe everything happens for a reason and I think this is what I was meant to do and I’m looking forward to getting back to playing games.

“I’m happy with how it has started for me and I feel like I am improving every week.”
