Strictly Come Dancing’s Chris McCausland delivered a comical reaction after his joke fell flat during Saturday’s live broadcast.
In an episode that marked a BBC One show first with its icons theme, the remaining 10 celebrity contestants and their professional partners danced to tracks from legendary artists.
Chris McCausland, aged 47 and the show’s inaugural blind contestant, alongside his dance partner Dianne Buswell, 35, paid tribute to rock band KISS. The pair performed a Tango to the tune of Rock and Roll All Nite on Saturday evening, earning themselves 29 points.
Post-performance, host Tess Daly commented: “Listen to that applause Chris, I think Dave Arch enjoyed playing that as much as you enjoyed dancing it!”
Chris quipped in response: “Well you know, dancing a Tango on BBC, I can only imagine someone’s got to dance a Fanta now just to balance it out! ” Unfortunately, the joke seemed to miss the mark, eliciting a muted reaction, reports the Mirror.
Quick to make light of the situation, Chris retorted: “Yeah, that was funnier in my head, shame this isn’t pre-recorded innit?”
Fans took to Twitter to express their views, with one user posting: “Don’t worry, I enjoyed your Tango/Fanta gag, Chris! #Strictly”, while another shared: “Chris’s Fanta joke flopping #StrictlyComeDancing #strictly” accompanied by crying emojis. A third chimed in with: “‘That was funnier in my head’ Chris I love you so much #strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”
A Beyonce medley by the professional dancers with Johannes Radebe embodying Sasha Fierce is set to dazzle during Sunday’s results show in a continued homage to music legends.
The news follows the departure of Dr Punam Krishan from Strictly Come Dancing as the fifth celebrity voted off during last Sunday’s results show. Despite her exit coinciding with Halloween week, the Morning Live doctor and Scottish GP expressed she was “proud” for challenging herself beyond her “comfort zone”.
This week, pro dancer Lauren Oakley stepped up to dance with JLS’s JB Gill after his original partner, Amy Dowden, took ill during last weekend’s show. Unpaired in this year’s BBC One series, Lauren filled in admirably.
Amy, 34, is reported to be on the mend after a health scare led to her missing out on Sunday’s program following a hospital stint; she has taken a hiatus from this week’s dancing activities. Amy, however, made it to this weekend’s live show, where she lent her support to JB and Lauren from the sidelines.
Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
