The couple behind Ayr’s escape room are so invested in puzzles that they incorporated a murder mystery game into their wedding.

In Time Escape Rooms is celebrating six years of offering immersive and interactive game experiences in Ayr.

Owned and operated by husband and wife duo, Gregor and Toria Campbell, the business has become a cornerstone of Ayr’s entertainment scene.

Together with their growing team, they have overcome pandemic challenges while fostering strong connections with the local community and welcoming tens of thousands of players through their doors on Hope Street since October 28, 2018.

When faced with Covid restrictions, the Campbells developed and delivered game bundles to keep the local community entertained.

These skills also came in handy when Toria and Gregor planned their own wedding last October while running the escape rooms, incorporating a murder mystery game for guests.

October holds even more significance for the couple, as they have played a key role in Tamfest, Ayrshire’s spookiest Halloween festival, since its inception.

The team is currently working on their new Escape room experience ‘Trapped in Time’.

Toria, 34, said: “While testing our new game with staff we realised how far we’ve come and how much work we’ve put into In Time Escape Rooms. We have a fantastic team and are incredibly grateful for the support and enthusiasm we received from players.

“It’s been so rewarding to see some of the young players grow up alongside us. Welcoming recurring teams back for our seasonal Christmas games has become a real tradition.”

The duo create their games from scratch and are inspired by local history and lore. For instance, Gregor attended Ayr Academy as a teen and was inspired by the building to design the popular ‘Abandoned Academy’ game.

Gregor, 40, said: “When we started off we wanted to create something that would offer locals more to do in the town, but also share a piece of Ayr’s history with visitors to the area”.

In Time Escape Room invites everyone to experience the excitement and challenge of its unique escape rooms. Newcomers and experienced players are all welcome.

Toria said: “We got a review from a customer on Tripadvisor; a father who had brought his daughter along as a bonding exercise. He said it was ‘one of the best things he’s ever done’, which is so wonderful to read.

“We also have a lot of charity groups that use the escape rooms. For example we have a young carers group who come quite regularly. They left a review that said the rooms were always at the top of the young people’s list for their group activities. I know the whole team was deeply moved to read that.”
