Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was left red-faced after slipping while attempting to kick the ball – before being BOOKED by referee Kevin Clancy.
It was all going to plan for Rodgers and the Hoops at Hampden as the Scottish Premiership leaders raced into a 3-0 first half lead in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final over Aberdeen – but the boss was keen to push for more to pile the misery on Jimmy Thelin‘s side. With the half-time whistle fast approaching, the ball went out of play and towards the Celtic dugout with Rodgers stepping up to try and thump the ball back onto the pitch.
As he tumbled, he was lost his footing and slipped – with the fans sarcastically cheering the hilarious spill.
The boss took it in stride as he jumped to his feet before raising his hands to the crowd with a smile on his face. Chuckling on commentary, Michael Stewart said: ‘That is an absolute beauty”
The man in the middle didn’t see the funny side and would then book the Celtic boss. Stewart went on: “Kevin Clancy, come on. Where is a bit of humour? I have never seen that from Brendan Rodgers before. At least he had a sense of humour. The officials could have just laughed that one off. It’s the only foot that has been put wrong in the first half.”
Charlie Murlgrew on punditry duties added: “He has taken it well to be fair. He did that a couple of times in the first half. He was frustrated at the performance.”
Punters were less than pleased with the booking – which appeared to be for kicking the ball away. One fan on X said: “Has the referee had a humour bypass?”. Another chimed in: “Clancy booking him, absolute wee guy behaviour.”
