Strictly Come Dancing fans expressed their discontent mere moments into Saturday night’s show as they identified a recurring motif.
In the most recent show, which for the first time was themed around icons on BBC One, the remaining ten celebrities and their pro dancing mates performed routines to tunes from legendary artists.
Further adding to the homage of music greats, during Sunday’s results broadcast, the show’s dance professionals are set to deliver a Beyonce number, with Johannes Radebe embodying the divas alter ego, Sasha Fierce.
Due to the unique theme, judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, and Motsi Mabuse decked out as their personal music idols.
But viewers didn’t hesitate to voice their opinions, particularly after last week featured the panel and stars donning Halloween costumes. Flooding to Twitter, an individual commented: “Oh can we just not with the themed weeks #Strictly”, someone else remarked: “We don’t need fancy dress EVERY week, #strictly” and yet another user concurred: “I agree, it’s getting ridiculous now.”, reports the Mirror.
The show kicked off with Pete Wicks embodying Freddie Mercury, paired with Jowita Przysta, in a lively Salsa routine to Another One Bites The Dust. Sam Quek and Nikita Kuzmin celebrated Taylor Swift with an American Smooth to Love Story and Wynne Evans and Katya Jones honoured Shirley Bassey with a sultry Rumba to This is My Life.
This week’s performances were marked by a notable change, as professional dancer Lauren Oakley stepped in to partner with JLS star JB Gill, 37, after his original partner Amy Dowden, 34, fell ill during filming last weekend. Fortunately, Amy is reported to be “doing much better” after a health scare forced her to miss Sunday’s results programme and sit out this week’s competition.
A Strictly spokesperson remarked on Monday: “Amy Dowden MBE is doing much better and the Strictly family send her love and wish her well.”
They continued, “She is delighted that fellow professional dancer Lauren Oakley is able to step in for rehearsals and to perform in Saturday’s show for JB Gill’s couple’s choice dance. We are all hopeful that Amy will be back to dance with JB next week.”
Amy, having undergone treatment for stage three breast cancer, including a mastectomy and chemotherapy, made a valiant return to the competition this year. In February, she shared some positive news, confirming that subsequent tests indicated she has “no evidence of disease”.
