As the chillier months approach, skincare experts have noticed a surge in Google searches for ‘Why is my skin dry’, a trend that’s likely to persist.
The natural decrease in humidity during colder months can affect your skin, particularly when combined with central heating and hot showers.
While a hot shower might seem appealing in cold weather, beauty gurus at BEAUTY PIE recommend lowering your daily shower temperature as steamy showers can strip moisture from the skin, exacerbating dryness.
Nicola Moulton, Head of Editorial at BEAUTY PIE, advised: “Ensuring you switch up your skincare and up your water intake can make a huge difference to your skin’s hydration levels.
“Other everyday habits, like reducing your shower temperature or sleeping on a silk pillow, can also aid your skin as it contends with the impending winter months. The key thing to remember is not to worry excessively if you notice a significant change in your skin.”
Our central heating systems pump dry air into the room which can be irritating for your skin, so it’s very normal to experience some change.”
Nicola also offered several other tips for preventing dry skin during the frosty winter months, including incorporating hydrating serums into your skincare routine. She advises that products loaded with Hyaluronic Acid will act like a magnet, drawing hydration into the skin.
In addition to this, she recommends using nourishing balms and oils and regularly exfoliating your skin. Her final tips include sleeping on a silk pillowcase and increasing your water intake.
