Ian Wright left Alan Shearer in hysterics after telling him to ‘f*** off’ after the Newcastle United hero teased him as he entered the building in a wheelchair.
The two pundits teamed up for the Premier League‘s official broadcast over the weekend as Wright’s beloved Arsenal faced off against Shearer’s Newcastle. Shearer, teasing the friendly rivalry, tweeted beforehand with an image of himself and Wright: “Together today for @premierleague tv @NUFC v @Arsenal we have promised no hard feelings whatever the result!”
Ultimately, it was Shearer who was smiling by the end, with Newcastle emerging victorious 1-0 thanks to Alexander Isak’s decisive strike. But Wright’s day soured further post-match. After the game, Shearer shared footage on his Instagram showing the moment Wright, who is currently recovering from knee replacement surgery, entered the building in a wheelchair. Shearer captioned the clip: “There were no hard feelings and Wrighty took it well!”
But upon seeing Shearer chuckle at him, wheelchair-bound Wright retorted sharply: “F*** off”, which only made Shearer laugh louder. Refusing to let up, the Newcastle favourite quipped, “It was only 1-0”, prompting Wright to continue with his expletive-laden response: “F***ing shut your mouth.”
Shearer then said: “We love you Wrighty, we love you,” even as Wright presented a serious demeanour and moved away. The moment followed closely after the football legend gave a stinging criticism of his old team’s performance following their loss at St James’ Park.
He pointed out that Arsenal can’t keep using captain Martin Odegaard’s absence as a scapegoat. He expressed frustration by saying: “It really is quite frustrating to be ten games in and feeling like we feel now and that’s only because we know how tough it is to try and chase down Manchester City.”
“Just one shot on target against Bournemouth, one shot on target today. It’s not good enough. It’s not good enough for a team that is going for the title.” There is a lot of work to be done in that dressing room. We can’t keep saying that we’re missing Martin Odegaard. We can’t keep saying that because we know we’re missing that.”
Wright, no doubt, is hoping that upcoming matches will lift his spirits, with Arsenal set to face Inter Milan on Wednesday and then taking a trip to Stamford Bridge to battle Chelsea the following weekend.
