The investigation into Russell Brand’s alleged sex offences has been handed over by the police to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to consider charges.

The former comedian and actor, 49, has been accused by multiple women of sexual assault, with the alleged offences spanning years.

A bombshell report and documentary from The Times and Channel 4 in 2023 detailed the allegations, which Brand has denied.

It has now been reported that detectives investigating the reports have handed evidence over to prosecutors.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, whose team is leading the inquiry at the Metropolitan Police, confirmed to The Sunday Times: ‘Our investigation continues and a file has now been passed to the CPS.

‘We have a team of dedicated officers providing specialist support to the women who have come forward.

‘We are committed to investigating sexual offences, no matter how long ago they are alleged to have taken place.’

The criminal inquiry began in September 2023 when four women made allegations of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse in a joint investigation from Channel 4’s Dispatches, The Sunday Times, and The Times.

The alleged assaults are reported to have taken place between 2006 and 2013 when the actor was at the height of his fame and he was a presenter on various broadcasters.

The Met announced at the time in a statement: ‘Following an investigation by The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches in 2023, the Met received a number of reports of sexual offences from women in London and elsewhere in the country.

The statement highlighted that Brand had been questioned under caution on ‘three separate occasions’.

‘As part of the investigation, a man in his forties has been interviewed by officers under caution on three separate occasions. These interviews related to a number of non-recent sexual offences which are alleged to have taken place both in and outside of London.’

Brand denies any wrongdoing and insists all his sexual relationships were ‘absolutely always consensual’.

Brand’s YouTube account was suspended and he now posts videos on Rumble.

In July 2024, he was eviscerated online after an embarrassing takedown of Kamala Harris as he confused melanin and melatonin.

In another video posted in April, Brand showed himself being baptised in the river Thames.

Brand said in a video: ‘This Sunday, I’m taking the plunge. I’m getting baptised.’

He added that he views baptism as ‘an opportunity to die and be reborn.’
