A Renfrew man who saw red and punched a mirror after an argument with his pregnant girlfriend will find out tomorrow if he’s allowed to contact her again.
Kacper Kacperczyk admitted he caused “fear or alarm” on October 21 when he shouted, acted aggressively and punched a mirror causing it to break.
The 22-year-old and his partner spent the day arguing over why he hadn’t visited her in hospital.
The argument got the better of Kacperczyk, of Charles Avenue, when he lost the plot and punched the mirror – causing it to smash and suffering a hand injury in the process.
When he appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday, visible cuts could be seen on his knuckles.
The procurator fiscal depute told the court the accused and his partner have been in a relationship for approximately one year and she was 22 weeks pregnant at the time of the incident last month.
The court heard: “Over the weekend of October 19, the woman was in hospital for a couple of days returning home on October 20.
“During the day, an argument ensued between the couple about their relationship and she got angry due to the fact the accused hadn’t attended at the hospital when she was there.
“The argument continued throughout the day into the evening and the accused left the house briefly before returning around midnight.
“Around 1am on October 21, the accused became aggressive and punched a mirror causing it to break and causing injury to his hand.
“The female contacted police and officers attended and observed the accused in the living room, highly angry and with a laceration to his hand.
“Officers also observed blood on the floor and his clothing. Police took a statement from the female and she left the property to go stay with a friend. Images were taken of the blood and the mirror and the accused was taken to hospital.
“Around 3am at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, he was formally told he was under arrest, cautioned and charged making no reply. He was taken to Govan police station, processed and released on an undertaking.”
Defence agent Stephen Graham told the court that – since Kacperczyk was arrested – he has been subject to bail conditions not to approach or contact his partner but understood the couple wish for the relationship to continue.
He added: “She phoned the police out of worry for the accused, not out of fear. She has no feelings of fear towards him. This was a one-off incident and drug misuse due to stress was a factor here. He recognises she will be more stressed than himself.
“He understands this is not acceptable conduct and has some maturing to do in the coming months to be a good father to their child. Contact from a third party states the views are they both want the relationship to continue.”
Sheriff Lindsay Kooner deferred sentence until tomorrow for the Crown to seek the woman’s views regarding a non-harassment order.
Kacperczyk’s bail with special conditions not to contact or approach his partner was continued meantime.
