It’s been 24 years since Body Groove became a club classic and singer Nana is unrecognisable as she gives a surprise street performance.
In 2000, garage group The Architechs collaborated with vocalist Nana and found themselves at number three on the UK singles chart.
Nana, also known as Nay Nay, proved she’s still able to belt out the tunes as she made a cameo on DJ AG Online’s TikTok, performing live in London.
‘When Nay Nay pulls up and performs the classic Body Groove,’ the internet star captioned the video, filmed on a street in Kings Cross.
The singer looked every bit the 00s star with a huge cropped fluffy jacket, black cutaway body suit and joggers.
She completed the look with a cap and oversized sunglasses — despite it being past sundown at the time like a true icon.
Body Groove spent nine weeks in the Top 40 and it was another seven weeks before it dropped out of the Top 100 completely.
‘She’s amazing and looks amazing’, commented Lexie on the TikTok, a sentiment echoed by other surprised fans.
DT Crafts and Poetry wrote: ‘This was a great surprise… this is the most hyped live for me.. was late putting my boy to bed cos I had to do my thing and make my body grove 🥰’
‘Nayyyyy Nayyyyy nah AG you’re actually a real one man! Bringing back all the legends who paved the way 🫡,’ praised Mizzle.
Angel added: ‘Ahh I love her shes amaziiinnnnnnggg my tuuuuuunnnnne.’
The Architechs were a garage duo consisting of brothers Paul and Ashley Akabah, although Paul went by the name Tre Lowe.
They also released Show Me the Money around the same time; another Top 20 hit but it couldn’t quite compare to the instant classic that was Body Groove.
Over the years, the duo worked with huge stars like All Saints, Gabrielle, Faithless, and Garbage, remixing tracks.
On February 2, 2020, Ashley died aged 49 from suspected complications from Covid.
In a shock career twist, Paul appeared on The Apprentice in 2024 saying he was secretly a ‘bit of a geek’ despite his garage roots.
Speaking about his music career, Tre described the venture as ‘something truly special’.
