North West Dumfries is greener and cleaner thanks to the efforts of the Lincluden community and the region’s largest social landlord.

A day of clean-up activity was organised in Lincluden by Wheatley Homes South and saw the social landlord’s Neighbourhood Environmental Team (NETs) staff joined by tenants and staff from Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Working with the council’s Assets and Community Safety Team, NETs staff carried out a range of activities. As well as engaging with customers in the area, they cut grass, collected litter as well as taking part in work to tackle weeds and moss and removing bulk waste.

Alex Lamb, managing director at Wheatley Homes South, said: “It was great to see our partners at Dumfries and Galloway Council join our staff for our latest environmental action day.

“Since being launched in Dumfries and Galloway, our NETs service has proved to be hugely popular and it is great to see so many of our customers not only supporting the work, but also getting involved and playing their part.

“This work certainly doesn’t go unnoticed and the response from our customers to these efforts has been overwhelmingly positive and shows the difference it makes in our communities.”

Wheatley’s NETs launched in Dumfries and Galloway in July 2021 and they have transformed neighbourhoods across the region through a range of environmental activities. In 2023/24, more than 1,300 tonnes of bulk waste was collected and over 8,000 stairwells cleaned by the NETs across the region, working closely with customers, partners and local charities.
