Fern Britton has opened up about overcoming mistakes regardless of who you are, including the royals.
In her new book The Older I Get, the ex This Morning host wrote a chapter about the many times she’s messed up and how laughing about them now is the best medicine.
In the first paragraph, Fern used King Charles and Queen Camilla as an example of people who have made mistakes at some point, before turning the tables.
She wrote: “First things first: we all make mistakes. A life without mess would not be worth living.
“The messy stuff in our lives challenges and teaches us. Failure is just a rehearsal for success.
“When I think about making mistakes, Queen Camilla comes to mind. She’s made a hell of a mess. So has the King. So has everybody.”
The 67-year-old went on to say that despite their past, the Queen was more powerful than ever before, particularly during the King’s current battle with an undisclosed form of cancer.
“Suddenly the King is ill and – bang! – she’s right there, front and centre as if she were born to it,” Fern penned.
“She owns the role and has such warmth and approachability.”
Fern, who shares a birthday with Camilla, went on to praise the royal for “taking on the biggest role of her life” in her seventies, following the Queen’s death in 2022.
“It is almost as if she is the poster girl for repowering,” she added.
The presenter turned author additionally shared details about her own mistakes from being swearing on live television, to many relatable ones as a mother.
Fern shares her three eldest children twins Harry and Jack, 29, and Grace, 26, with her former husband Clive Jones, and 23-year-old Winnie with her second spouse Phil Vickery.
Reflecting on her past, the mother-of-four said she’s come to terms with separating her mistakes from her present self, and believes laughing them off is best.
“Some of them are tiny, some of them huge. Some of them funny, some mortifying,” she spilled.
“No matter how deeply ashamed you feel, after a while you generally have to laugh.”
