Shocking footage shared on social media has shown a huge fire burning in Niddrie tonight amid expected chaos for Bonfire Night.

A helicopter can be seen flying in the air while a fire burns close to flats in the area as sirens fill the air.

In the clip on X, from @KamilciakKamila, emergency service sirens can be heard while smoke billows up into the air.

Tonight police closed a road in the area after saying cars had come under attack from youths with fireworks.

A statement from Edinburgh police said that ‘resources’ from the force’s Operation Moonbeam to tackle anti-social behaviour had been deployed.

It reads: “Moonbeam resources are assisting local officers in the Niddrie area following reports of youths throwing fireworks at vehicles. Niddrie Mains Road is currently closed between Duddingston Road West and Duddingston Park South. The public are asked to avoid the area.

“There are no reported injuries, and enquiries are ongoing. If you have information about planned criminal activity involving fireworks this evening, please contact us on 101. If you wish to report an ongoing crime, then dial 999.”

Multiple riot vans and public order officers have been in attendance for the last few hours in preparation for expected antisocial behaviour that has plagued Niddrie in recent years on November 5.

On Halloween, October 31, officers faced attacks from youths armed with fireworks and bricks, resulting in injuries to one female officer during the chaos on Hay Drive.

The disorder tonight follows on from previous Guy Fawkes night chaos which has hit the capital the previous two years- with the Niddrie area in particular coming into focus.
