Jamie Oliver has shared a ‘game-changing’ hack for a popular fridge item that he claims he ‘always’ buys frozen. Vegetables can pose all sorts of problems, from being left unused to going mouldy too quickly.
But there’s one vegetable Jamie advised to always buy from the frozen aisle at the supermarket: spinach. While you can buy either fresh or frozen spinach, Jamie chooses the latter to make sure it lasts longer.
He also described it as a ‘fantastic’ ingredient to elevate a dish, whether that be a curry, stew, soup, or even bread. Not only will frozen spinach save you time when cooking, it can also free up space in the fridge for other items.
In a recent Instagram post, he said: “This isn’t the first time I’ve bigged up frozen spinach and it won’t be the last!! Don’t get me wrong I still love fresh for some things but sometimes frozen is just better. Anything that saves you time and space in your fridge is a huge win for me!”
Jamie explained: “So I buy fresh spinach, I grow fresh spinach, and I always buy frozen spinach. This is incredible, and it’s fantastic for curries, bread, and just putting an extra little cube in a stew and a soup, it’s a fantastically brilliant thing to do.”
To complete the hack, all you need to do is place the frozen spinach in a tea towel. Instead of waiting 20 minutes to defrost, Jamie recommended using a rolling pin to “give it a little whack”.
He continued: “Then what we’ve got in here is brilliant spinach.” Once broken up, you can then add the spinach to any dish you want without waiting for it to defrost.
Jamie’s hack video has already been viewed over a massive one million times, receiving 13,900 likes and 83 comments. @piglet1966 said: “I agree and I always waste the fresh spinach as the bags are too big!”
@muzza_issy wrote: “Daughter of a chef ( went to Westminster a couple of decades before you ) always used frozen spinach. Saves time and money and nothing goes to waste.”
