A picturesque island beach has been named the “most beautiful” in Scotland.

As November kicks off and we enter the colder months, now may not seem like the best time for a trip to the beach. However, when the mercury drops is actually a great time to visit one of Scotland’s scenic bays if you are looking to avoid the crowds.

Ahead of the winter, experts at tour operator Scotlands Wild Tours have put together a list of the country’s 10 “most beautiful” beaches. Whether you are looking for a secluded island bay or something a bit closer to home, there is bound to be at least one that jumps out.

Coming in at number one on the list is Scarista Beach on the Isle of Lewis. Looking out over the Atlantic Ocean, the beach is famous for its imposing waves that make it a top surfing destination in the country.

Meanwhile, Scarista Beach is also a great spot for a peaceful walk — especially towards the end of the year when fewer tourists venture there. It is even dog friendly, meaning you can take your furry friend along with you for the adventure.

Scotlands Wild Tours wrote: “The soft golden sands stretch out along the coast line, and the vivid blue waters are as clear as day. This beach is often a lot quieter than others on the Isle of Harris due to its more secluded location.

“It is still a very accessible beach, but you need to take a short walk down paths and grassland from the main road to get to it. No matter the weather, this beach is a beautiful sight, and great for a relaxing stroll or swim!”

Elsewhere, Scotland’s Wild Tours named Calgary Bay on the Isle of Mull as the second “most beautiful” beach in Scotland. The bay is the biggest and most accessible in the north of Mull, located around 12 miles from the island’s capital town of Tobermory.

Scotland’s Wild Tours singled out Calgary Bay’s “low surrounding hills”, as well as its “scenic machair that sits behind the sands”. The beach also features calcium-rich sandy soil that allows for a one-of-a-kind habitat where flowers and grasses flourish.

Other island beaches to be included on the tour operator’s roundup are Luskentyre Beach on the Isle of Harris and the Isle of Skye’s Coral Beach. Meanwhile, one of the beaches on the Scottish mainland that was named is Lunan Bay in Montrose.

More information and the full list of the “top 10 most beautiful beaches in Scotland” can be found on the Scotland’s Wild Tours website.
