It’s been a very successful week for one local farmer.
John Carson, farm manager at Dornells Farm, Laurieston came away as runner-up in the Sheep Farm of the Year at last week’s Scottish Agricultural Awards.
The following day John and his assistant James Rea entered two Belted Galloway heifers, Dornells Kate and Dornells Kim, in the Belted Galloway Show at Wallets Marts and received a first and second in their class and went on to win the female champion class, selling Dornells Kate for the highest heifer price of 7,000 gns.
Dornells King was the champion bull last year at Castle Douglas which sold for the record 20,000 gns (which was matched this year by a snr bull) also turned out by John and James.
