Christmas has come early for Sainsbury’s, as it’s just been named the best supermarket for Christmas shopping in 2024.
Just days after launching its heartwarming BFG festive advert, the grocery giant has beaten out its competitors.
According to over 100,000 reviews posted on Trustpilot website, more than 22% of people gave the UK’s second-largest shopping chain five stars for its Christmas shopping experience.
While a further 28% shared that they believe shopping at the supermarket throughout the festive season is worth at least four out of five stars.
One reviewer praised the deals available, writing: ‘Your offers are amazing so we have already stocked up on some meat and toys for Christmas.’ While another was impressed the wide variety of products: ‘Sainsbury’s stocks just about everything you need or want. The fruit and veg is always fresh and coming up to Christmas they stock many children’s toys at reasonable prices.’
Many shoppers also loved how building up Nectar Points can take the edge off Christmas spending: ‘Nectar points make the difference and so helpful towards Christmas.’
Ocado came in second place with 21.6% of people giving the online supermarket a rating of four out of five stars for a Christmas shopping experience.
While Lidl, which is planning to open 10 more stores before the end of the year, was right behind with 21.3%.
Iceland came in fourth place, with just 18.9% of shoppers giving it four stars for Christmas shopping, and Morrison’s was fifth with 18.5%.
Noticeably absent from the top five, which was collated by Britsuperstore, Marks & Spencer, which recently released its festive collection designed to make Christmas easy.
Waitrose, Tesco, Aldi and Asda also didn’t make the cut.

How to keep Christmas food shopping stress free
With Halloween and Guy Fawkes over and done with and Oxford Street’s Christmas lights officially being turned on this week, the countdown to Christmas has started.
From rushing along high streets trying to picking the perfect present and putting up the tree, it’s a busy and at times stressful time of year.
But Richard Price, supermarket expert and Director of Britsuperstore, says food shopping doesn’t have to be.
According to the expert, there are many things you can do to make your fridge-filling experience a lot easier, including shopping online, sticking to a budget and planning early.
‘Avoid the last-minute rush by planning your shopping well ahead of time. Create a detailed shopping list organised by category (meats, dairy, produce etc). Make sure to account for any special dietary requirements for guests,’ he says.
Richard explains that making a list will not only help prevent you from making impulse last-minute buys but also make going through the supermarket stress-free.
‘Christmas food shopping can be tempting,’ he adds. ‘Particularly with seasonal treats and indulgent holiday foods on display,’ to ensure you don’t fill your basket up with unnecessary items, he suggests that you set a budget and stick to it as well as writing a list.
As for those wanting to reduce the financial strain of the season, Richard suggests you start purchasing your non-perishable items like sauces, canned foods and frozens now.
Adding one or two to your basket each week won’t be too noticeable now, but in the long run, it will spread out the cost and feel like a saving during that last-minute festive shop.
Saving the best for last, the expert revealed doing your shopping online and booking a delivery slot is one of the best stress saving hacks this Christmas.
Sainsbury’s, Ocado, M&S and Asda delivery slots are already available to book, while Tesco’s ‘Delivery Pass’ customers can book from November 5 and non-members from November 12.
