When is Black Friday 2024 in the UK?
While once previously associated with America, the shopping event has grown in popularity in the UK over the past few years.
Traditionally, it takes place on the same day every year, which means that the official Black Friday sales in the UK will take place for 24-hours on November 29. It marks just three weeks before Christmas, so the timing is ideal for Christmas gift shopping.
That’s not all, as it is quickly followed by Cyber Monday on December 2. This means that you can shop that entire weekend for any discounts you have circled or added to a wish-list.

When will the Black Friday 2024 sales end?
As previously mentioned, the Black Friday sales will most likely run from 00:01am on November 29 right through until 11:59pm on Cyber Monday, December 2.
However, as we have witnessed in previous years, some retailers extend their sales throughout December, though this is not always a given. So, if you have your eye on anything, it’s worth making sure you bag it while you can to avoid missing out.
Why do we call it Black Friday?
The term Black Friday has quite a few origin stories, with one suggesting that it was coined by the US police to refer to the crowds of shoppers that came with the Christmas season.
It began to be associated with Friday in the 50s when factory workers would call in sick to work on the day after thanksgiving. Since then, it has largely been used in relation to the day retailers launch massive deals and discounts at the end of November.
After gaining a large following in America, the shopping event came across the seas to the UK in 2010. Today, Black Friday is considered to be one of the biggest shopping events in both the UK and the US.
How can you find the best Black Friday deals?
With thousands of deals from various retailers expected to drop this year, it can often be hard to make sure that you are getting the best deal. One piece of advice we would recommend is to mark any shops or products you are thinking of purchasing this year, just so you don’t miss out if it does go on offer.
Amazon is a good place to mark items, as the online retailer allows you to create a ‘wish list’ of products you’d like to buy. You do need to sign up for a Prime membership to create list, and you can find information on how to do so here.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Daily Record’s team of shopping experts will be running a live blog throughout throughout Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The blog will be updates with any top deals we spot, so keep an eye out for our liveblog around that time.
