Alfredo Morelos looks poised to make his return on the pitch just two weeks on from his arrest for drink driving.

The former Rangers star reportedly had the equivalent of five beers in his system when his car collided with a biker on the road in Colombia, leaving a man with serious injuries to his legs, ribs and arms. Morelos – who returned to his homeland to join Atletico Nacional on loan from Brazilian club Santos in July – was immediately arrested at the scene, with his loan club confirming last week that the player will face punishment.

Some reports in South America claimed that the ex Ibrox forward’s loan contract at Nacional could be ripped up, but a series of posts on social media now suggests that Morelos is in line to get back on the pitch for the Colombian outfit. The 28-year-old featured in training pictures shared by the club’s official social media account and with the team due to face Deportivo Pereira on Thursday, was also pictured onboard a plane in a post on Instagram by teammate Edin Cardona.

Morelos can be seen sporting Nacional’s colours and South American outlet FutBol Red claim that he is a part of the squad for the game. The player has admitted his regret over the seriousness of the drink driving incident and has claimed that he has been in contact with victim Sebastian Davila to help aid his recovery.

However, Davila, 27, has refuted those claims and has labelled the ex Rangers favourite as a ‘liar’. There are some fears that Davila’s injuries are so severe that he will be unable to walk again.
