Good Morning Britain viewers were quick to voice the same gripe just moments into the show’s latest instalment.
Susanna Reid partnered with Ed Balls for a unique broadcast directly from Washington, D.C., covering the US election, which saw Donald Trump contend against Kamala Harris for the presidency.
However, the usually UK-centric news programme left audiences less than thrilled as they wanted to hear other news stories. Resorting to X, previously known as Twitter, a disgruntled viewer remarked: “FFS where’s the British news, how many reporters do you need to send to America, enough already (sic),” reports the Mirror.
Another chimed in: “Don’t get this much coverage for a UK election, meanwhile – what’s the weather over Oxfordshire going to be today? Any British news?” Another said: “Is there anyone in the London studio to give us British news.”
Meanwhile, a fourth enquired: “Have I missed the weather and our local news?” Another tweeter lamented: “No news happening anywhere else today then!”
Nonetheless, despite the chatter of discontent, some were more than content with the US-centred reportage as Trump took the lead in the polls. A contrasting opinion came from one individual who declared: “TRUMP WINS. It is A WIN for the USA AND for the WORLD. Crazy. He’s been Voted IN for The 2nd time. I LOVE how The news channels are fuming!!!”
As the show progressed, Susanna eventually handed the broadcast over to Charlotte Hawkins back at the London studio, who provided the latest British headlines. The show’s hosts also reassured viewers with their promise of a conversation with actor Rob Schneider.
Later on Good Morning Britain, the programme paused to air a speech by Trump himself. He was on the brink of victory, having bagged 266 electoral votes out of a possible 270, while Kamala Harris had secured 188 votes at the time of reporting.
Trump declared: “This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again,” he added, echoing his campaign slogan and catchphrase. He also stated: “Every single day I will be fighting for you with every breath of my body.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
