Shane Richie had This Morning stars Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley giggling as he made a playful dig at Loose Women during his chat live on the ITV daytime show.
The EastEnders icon was discussing his character Alfie Moon’s potential reunion with Kat Slater (played by Jessie Wallace) on Wednesday’s (November 6) episode of the ITV morning programme.
In a light-hearted moment, Shane quipped about choosing to appear on This Morning over Loose Women, where Coleen is a panellist, saying:”It was either This Morning or Loose Women and I only watch Loose Women now to see out what I’m up too” and, with a knowing nod, added: “Those that will know, will know”. His remark left Ben chuckling, clearly in on the joke.
As the segment wrapped up, the show linked up with the Loose Women team, where host Charlene White assured Shane they wouldn’t be discussing him that day, as she stood with Coleen, Judi Love, and Brenda Edwards. Shane humorously asked, “What am I doing today? ” and playfully acknowledged Coleen with “I recognise her” as the camera switched back to This Morning.
Coleen and Shane’s relationship began in 1986, leading to an impromptu wedding in Florida in 1990 after their grand plans fell through. The couple, who share sons Shane Jr and Jake, parted ways in 1999 following mutual infidelities, ending their marriage which had started with such promise, reports the Mirror.
In 1996, Shane made the move to Manchester for the role of Danny Zuko in Grease and left Coleen and their two kids back in the south. An extract from her 2009 autobiography recalls that was when she first started feeling suspicious.
She particularly became wary at a bash celebrating one of Shanes musicals, when her eye caught an attractive woman with dark hair. “At the after-show party, I can distinctly remember examining this one girl. There were loads of people there but she just stood out. She had really long dark hair and was wearing a skin-tight white dress,” Coleen wrote in her book.
She had a hunch about the woman who Shane later admitted to having an affair with actor and dancer Claire Taylor. Shane, in his own book ‘Rags to Riches’, fessed up to the infidelity with Claire Taylor. He said: “I was lying so much that I couldn’t remember which story I’d told to each of them. And I’d lie to cover up the lies.”
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am
