A talented Newmains teenager will be treading the boards this Christmas in a panto starring role.

Thirteen-year-old Jack Brown will be starring as the Lion in the Theatre School of Scotland’s production of Wizard of Oz which is putting on 11 performances at the Scottish Event Campus this Christmas.

The pantomime, which will run from December 19 to 23, will be performed by a cast of 100 children.

Jack’s proud mum Tracy said: “It’s a big part for him but when we found out he had got a part he was absolutely delighted.

“Jack has been involved in drama and acting since he was four. He just chips away at it and he loves it.

“When he went to high school I thought he would fall away from it but now he is out six times per week. He really wants to pursue it.”

Taylor High School pupil Jack has already starred in several productions including supporting roles in Outlander and The Last King as well as playing Jack in the Gillies MacKinnon film The Last Bus alongside Auf Wiedersehen, Pet star Timothy Spall.

He continues to work hard at his craft attending Theatre School Of Scotland and ACT Scotland as well as singing at LJ Vocals.

Tracy added: “If anyone asks Jack what he wants to do for a living he’ll tell them he wants to be an actor.

“I don’t know where he gets it from – it’s certainly not me – but he’s very passionate about it.

“He got some great tips from Timothy Spall when he was doing a scene. He told him to forget the cameras were there. He was very good with him.”

The Wizard of Oz cast, which features children aged between six and 23, was chosen from 450 hopefuls who auditioned.

Reece Donnelly, Theatre School of Scotland’s director and principal, said: “We’re giving these kids an opportunity they’ve only dreamed of—performing in front of thousands.

“It’s not just about building their confidence and skills but sparking them to realise there is and can be future careers in theatre, telly and beyond.

“This year we really have pulled out all the stops we’ve got set, costumes and pyro coming from across Europe, I cannot wait to be home with the wonderful SEC team for another year, it’s a delight to produce this show with them each year.”
