TEXAS, USA — Donald Trump declared victory from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida early Wednesday morning, thanking supporters and congratulating his Republican colleagues on winning control of the Senate.
The presidential race was officially called for Trump around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Shortly after Trump declared victory, elected officials across Texas began sharing their reaction to Trump’s win. On Tuesday evening, the Associated Press declared that Republicans will take control of the U.S. Senate, delivering Trump a powerful tool to pursue his agenda.
Former President and Dallas resident George W. Bush congratulated Trump on on his victory and thanked President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for their service.
I congratulate President Trump on his election as 47th President of the United States of America, as well as Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and their families. I also thank President Biden and Vice President Harris for their service to our country,” Bush said. “The strong turnout in this election is a sign of the health of our republic and the strength of our democratic institutions. Laura and I are grateful to the election officials, poll workers, and volunteers who oversaw a free, fair, safe, and secure election.”
Texas Senator John Cornyn called Trump’s win a “historic victory” in a statement released early Wednesday morning.
“I’m confident President Trump will hit the ground running to restore the Office of the President to what it should be – one that keeps the American people safe and prosperous,” Cornyn wrote. “It is critically important that the Senate is prepared to enact his pro-growth agenda from day one. Come January, we must be ready to confirm his nominees, pass a budget, address our debt, extend the Trump tax cuts, and reverse Kamala Harris’ disastrous border security policies.”
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, who in Sept. 2023 announced he switched parties from Democrat to Republican, congratulated Donald Trump on “a decisive victory” in a social media post on X.

U.S. Rep Beth Van Duyne, R-Irving also congratulated Trump on X after winning her own decisive victory Tuesday night, writing: “Trump re-elected! USA, USA, USA!”
Texas Gov, Greg Abbott also released a statement congratulating Trump on his win early Wednesday morning, saying Americans rejected Kamala Harris’ agenda.
“President Donald Trump’s victory ensures that America’s future will be brighter and more prosperous than ever,” Abbott said. The Trump-Vance Administration will cement America’s energy dominance, crack down on crime, secure our borders, and restore American strength, prosperity, and success once again.
Mark Cuban, an outspoken Democrat congratulated Trump and fellow billionaire Elon Musk in a post on X Wednesday.

Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare, a Republican, congratulated Trump in a post Wednesday morning saying, “Congratulations to the 45th and soon-to-be 47th President of the United States.”
The Texas Republican Party also reacted to Trump’s win saying “America has spoken.”
“President Trump will make America greater than ever before – closing the border, fixing the economy, and protecting our cities,” the party said in a statement. “The Republican Party of Texas thanks President Trump for always fighting for America.”
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick wrote that he spoke with Donald Trump on the phone Tuesday morning and predicted a “huge victory,” Patrick wrote in a statement.
“I’m so proud of him and everyone who voted for him. Americans took their country back from the radical socialist left,” Patrick said.
