The Simpsons seem to have predicted a map of the US Election results 24 years ago.
In recent weeks people have been pointing out the long-running animated series might have continued its streak of predicting world events years in advance.
For more than three decades fans of the show have been wondering how the show has seemingly forecast occurrences like the coronavirus pandemic, the Titanic submersible tragedy and Elon Musk’s Twitter rebrand.
A 2000 episode, titled Bart to the Future, also imagined Lisa Simpson succeeding Donald Trump in office, 16 years before his baffling rise to the White House.
Taking the top job, in a clip Lisa said: ‘We’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump’.
Then, in a 2015 mini-episode of the animation entitled Trumptastic Voyage, Homer ends up standing behind Trump on an escalator and going past a sign in the background which reads Trump 2012, Trump 2016, then Trump 2020, and finally Trump 2024.
The 2000 episode also went viral when Kamala Harris became the first female US Vice President, wearing a purple suit, pearl necklace and earrings that were almost identical to the outfit Lisa wore in the Oval Office during her inauguration alongside President Joe Biden.
In recent weeks hopeful supporters of Harris also begged for the prediction to go one step further and see Harris take over the top job like Lisa.
However soon after the results of the 2024 vote started streaming in overnight, some pointed out that the show made another chilling forecast.
In a clip from the same episode, a TV presenter is seen standing in front of a map of the United States, showing which states have been declared in favour of Lisa, and which have been won by her running mate, an unnamed man.
The map was almost identical to the one showing what states had been declared by the Democrats and Republicans.
‘WTF SIMPSONS ARE FROM THE FUTURE THEY GOT LITERALLY THE EXACT MAP FROM THIS ELECTION,’ edgarplaysST posted on X.
‘The Simpsons just casually predicted the exact election voting map,’ imvikasu shared too.
‘The Simpsons map and the actual map being the same is so insane to me kamala BRING HOME THE WIN,’ Jessi added, before the results went in Trump’s favour and he declared victory.
Dan Greaney, credited with writing the 2000 episode in question, told The Hollywood Reporter in 2016 that the joke had been intended as ‘a warning to America’.
‘That just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom. It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane,’ he said.
Four days after Trump was elected as the 45th president of the United States on November 8, 2016, the opening credits of The Simpsons episode Havana Wild Weekend saw Bart right ‘Being right sucks’ as the chalkboard gag.
