The dream of moving abroad is strong for many.
Ditching the dreary British weather and high living costs for sunnier skies and a relaxed lifestyle overseas has crossed many people’s minds. This aspiration was achieved by one woman who acknowledges that moving to Spain six years ago was among her best life choices.
On TikTok, Geo, known as @geoinspain, has openly declared she would never consider returning to Britain after emigrating. She praises Spain for offering so much more and embracing an elevated quality of life.
Geo admits suffering “reverse culture shock” each time she revisits the UK, recognising that the appeal lies not only in climate, but also in the easy Spanish way of life.
In a candid video, Geo said: “I feel like I’m such a healthier person in Spain through the food that I eat, and the amount of time I spend outdoors. Also, it’s so normal to socialise during the week, and not just wait for the weekends, which is something that I love about living here.”
She added: “Whether it’s going for a drink, or going for a coffee, or going for breakfast – there’s always things to do during the week and at the weekends. Also, in the mornings, people who you don’t even know say good morning to you, which I just think is such a nice way to start the day.”
While in England, Geo finds these interactions less common, in contrast with the spontaneous conversations with strangers that she cherishes in Spanish society. Additionally, she has voiced concerns about her financial ability to resettle in England should she ever wish to return.
Geo said: “I know prices have increased everywhere, but it’s so expensive now, and having this on your doorstep for a lot cheaper of a price is just a no-brainer. There’s always something to do here, and you really don’t have to spend a lot of money.
“We usually spend our weekends having a walk around, seeing friends, going for a drink or having some Tapas.”
After the video was posted, it quickly received over 80,000 likes, with many people jumping in to ask about the practicalities of moving abroad.
One individual admitted: “I would love to be able to get the hell out of the UK. Just have no idea where to start.”
Meanwhile, another shared: “I’m Spanish and moving to the UK has affected me so much.”
A third also added: “I came to Spain with a job, and it’s the best experience I’ve ever had. I’m still here now 18 years on. I love the atmosphere, it’s relaxed, spending a lot of time outside and, yes, eating much better here.”
