A bus caught fire in Ayrshire this afternoon with flames engulfing the double-decker vehicle.

Police Scotland officers scrambled to the blaze on Hayocks Road, Stevenston, at around 4.30pm on Thursday, November 7.

Pictures from the scene show the bus, thought to be a Stagecoach vehicle, consumed by bright flames while thick, black smoke billowed into the sky.

Pedestrians were warned to stay away from the area by officers, while police confirmed they have launched a probe to establish how the fire started. No one is believed to have been hurt in the blaze.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.35pm on Thursday, November 7, we received a report of a bus on fire on Hayocks Road, Stevenston.

“There are no reports of any injuries. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”

Stagecoach and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
