Per WFAA Cowboys Insider Ed Werder, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s injury is a ‘partial avulsion of the hamstring tendon’.

DALLAS — An initial diagnosis of Dak Prescott’s injury reveals the Cowboys quarterback will be out for weeks.

Team sources confirmed that Prescott suffered a “partial avulsion of the hamstring tendon,” per Ed Werder.

The injury is a rare one. It occurs when the hamstring muscle tendon contracts so suddenly and forcefully that it tears away from the bone. In certain cases, the tendon can pull pieces of bone with it.

Avulsions of the hamstring tendon are often misdiagnosed as a simple hamstring pull, but if left untreated can inflict further damage.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Prescott is seeking a second opinion. Either way, it appears likely the Cowboys starting quarterback will miss weeks and be placed on the IR.

Dallas’ next option at the starting QB spot appears to be Cooper Rush, though Trey Lance is another option to weigh
